Single Equalities Policy

Single Equalities

At Brookfield Park Primary School, equality is a key principle for treating all people fairly and creating a society in which everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential - irrespective of their gender, ethnicity, disability, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, age or any other recognised area of discrimination.

School Access Policy Statement

Brookfield Park is committed to providing inclusive educational and non-educational services in a non-discriminatory manner. We recognise that many of its pupils, visitors and staff, whether disabled, or otherwise, have individual needs when using the school and its facilities.  However, we also recognise that for some pupils, the nature of their disabilities and or special educational needs may mean that they experience specific difficulties related to commitment to the delivery of an inclusive educational service, we will endeavour to ensure that pupils with disabilities or with special educational needs are given access to the same standards of education as all other pupils.

We ensure that the curriculum is accessible to all pupils through clear identification and understanding of individual needs and through appropriate differentiation and support.

An audit of the premises and the grounds has been made to make sure that all who use the premises are aware of facilities and has a clear strategy for improving access over the successive years. We make available, when appropriate, all written information in alternate formats – both to parents/carers and to pupils.

Brookfield Park and Prevent

Brookfield Park plays its part in the national strategy to reduce the likelihood of young people becoming radicalised and then engaging in any form of violent extremism.

In Brookfield Park we believe that pupils should be given the opportunity to explore the issue of diversity and understand Britain as a multi-cultural society. We provide a safe learning environment in which pupils can raise controversial questions and concerns without fear of reprimand or ridicule and explore boundaries of what’s acceptable will engender an open attitude to multi-cultural and race issues. We uphold the principle that people should treat everyone with respect whatever their race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, special need or disability. Our teachers engage pupils in promoting a positive attitude to others with a focus on shared values whilst developing a high regard for themselves. By building self-esteem pupils are encouraged to stand firm and be positive about others and not be influenced by any negative peer pressure they may encounter. Through education we can enable pupils to think for themselves by providing many opportunities for discussing debating, researching, questioning etc set within the context of learning based on sound knowledge and understanding.
