Autumn Term Newsletter 2019
This year the children will be working hard to improve their arithmetic skills, problem solving, mental calculations and choosing the best strategies for efficiency. Beech class have begun the year working hard in their maths learning and are improving their understanding of what is being asked of them in word stories and problem solving activities, with increasing independence. This is so pleasing as I am sure that by the end of Year 5 the children's confidence in maths, and how to tackle a challenge set, will be out of this world!
We are lucky this year that a PE sport's coach from SHARES will continue to lead one PE lesson a week on a Thursday. All the children will have opportunities to develop their independent and team playing skills, across a range of themes and sports. Wednesday will be the day that the children attend a 45 minute swimming lesson at Nye Bevan. Please ensure that your child has a swimming cap, swimwear and towel for every session. Swimming caps can be bought from our school office, at a cost of £1.20. Goggles are not compulsory. Please ensure that PE t-shirts are the colour of their team, and have their names in them.
It is really important that your child regularly reads at home as we continue our, 'We Are Reading!' focus. Through this we will be doing our upmost to really promote the love of reading in our pupils, which hopefully will impact them for life! Reading is so very important as it helps to improve spellings, writing, imagination, relaxation and so much more. It is important that your child also completes their weekly homework tasks based on number and times tables and spellings. I am more than happy to provide support or a quiet space for children to complete some of their homework, especially if you have had rather a busy week!
