Reading in Year 1

Here in Oak class we have been looking at 'traditional tales.  So far we have read Goldilocks and the three bears, Jack and the beanstalk and this week we are doing the three little pigs.  We use the tales to help us with our writing as well as our reading.

The children have really enjoyed reading stories by the same Author. The Author is Julia Donaldson and it was brilliant to see the witch from room on the broom in our class on World Book Day.

Room on the Broom - Julia Donaldson.. Children's Story. Audiobook - read-aloud.

The witch had a cat and a very tall hat... Join the witch and her new friends on their travels.. Will they escape the dragon? Colourful read-aloud. Music: Youth Musician: @iksonmusic

Spring 2

This half term we are reading Hermelin - the Detective Mouse, by Mini Grey, as our class novel. The children have written sentences solving mysteries, creating Missing Pet posters and Lost items posters. Also we will be writing a newspaper report.  This book is such fun and the illustrations are amazing, the children have spent a lot of time looking carefully at all the detail trying to solve mysteries.
