Welcome to Beech Class! Academic year 2017-2018!
It's such an exciting time of the year as all the children begin to work in their new year group, with a new class teacher and other new adults to support their learning.
The children have made a fantastic start to their learning in such a short time. They are working hard, focussing on their learning well and already becoming more independent in their learning.
This year we will be working so much to improve our arithmetic skills, problem solving, mental calculations and choosing the best strategies for efficiency. Beech class have made a great start to their maths learning this year and are working hard to understand what is being asked of them in word stories and problem solving activities with increasing independence. This is so pleasing as I am sure that by the end of Year 5 the children's confidence in maths, and how to tackle a challenge set will be out of this world!
We are lucky this year that a PE sport's coach from SHARES will continue to lead one PE lesson a week, in which all the children will have opportunities to develop their independent and team playing skills, across a range of themes and sports. Wednesday will be the day that the children attend a 45 minute swimming lesson at Nye Bevan. Please ensure that your child has a swimming cap, swimwear and towel for every session. Swimming caps can be bought from our school office, at a cost of £1.20. Goggles are not compulsory.
It is really important that your child regularly reads at home and completes their weekly homework tasks based on number and times tables and spellings. The children have use of a homework club on a Monday lunchtime, should they prefer to complete some of their homework tasks at school, or need extra support with a particular task set.
