Phonics and Reading
In Year 1 we have daily phonics sessions. These are vital in helping the children to learn their letter sounds and to begin to blend sounds together to read words. This term we have focussed on Phase 3 sounds. Please see the attached 'Phase 3' document for Phase 3 sounds and attached links for supporting phonics at home.
During the Autumn term we have been reading lots of traditional tales. We have learned how to create story maps to show the main events in a story. We have also done a lot of retelling of stories.
We have been practising writing in sentences using a capital letter and full stop and finger spaces to separate words. We have been practising writing on the line and trying to make sure all our letters are formed correctly.
We have also looked at some non chronological reports about animals and had a go at writing our own report.
