Autumn Term

Welcome to Acorns!

Welcome to the Acorns Early Years Foundation Stage Unit.

We are the Nursery and Reception class in school.

We have 3 staff in the Early Years:-

Mrs Collinson (Class Teacher and Reception key person)

Mrs Bingham  (Nursery HLTA and Nursery/Reception key person)

Mrs Welsh  (T.A. Reception key person)

We also have volunteers on work experience with us over the year.

Over the last two weeks the children have been settling in well to school.

Our nursery children have been playing and working with new friends who have joined our nursery this term.

Our Reception children have also been getting to know each other and the adults in the early years.  They have said that they are particularly enjoying our large outdoor area, the big playground and the school lunches.

We are encouraging the nursery and reception children to become more independent in class by taking responsibility for their own book bag, coat and water bottle. They also self-register each day.

Reception children have the opportunity to bring a toy, special object/photograph to school every Monday for Show and Tell. Every Thursday we will also send ‘Ted’ home for the weekend with one of the children. We look forward to reading about all of the exciting things he has been doing with the children at home!

Our current topic is Autumn. We are going to be involved in lots of art work for our main display in the EYFS.

Our nursery children visit the reading room (library) each Friday and choose a book to take home to share with parents/carers.

Our reception children take home a reading book every Tuesday and they also have letters and sounds homework each week. This should be completed by the following Tuesday.

The reception children will also be given a laminated name card to practise writing their name regularly at home.

Please read the attached newsletters and keep checking the website for further details and updates.

If you have any questions please speak to me or one of the EYFS team.

Thank you.

Mrs Collinson
